Osteoporosis Screening in Manasquan, NJ
Osteoporosis Screening in Manasquan, NJ: The body constantly absorbs and replaces bone tissue throughout a person’s body. If you have osteoporosis, however, new bone creation is not able to keep up with the old bone removal. Comprehensive Pain Manageement provides patients with osteoporosis screenings for those who are at risk for the disease.
What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a deterioration and thinning of the bones due to weakened bone tissues. It leads to bones becoming more fragile and more susceptible to breaks or fractures. Unfortunately, there are no outward signs or symptoms for osteoporosis. However, Comprehensive Pain Management provides osteoporosis screening for those who may be at risk or more susceptible to it.
An osteoporosis screening provided at our pain control clinic is performed to check a patient’s bone thickness. An osteoporosis screening test is advised for patients with any of the following:
- A current fracture or break
- Fractures or breaks in the past
- Family history of osteoporosis
- Diseases or other medical conditions that are known to lead to bone thinning
- Low estrogen levels in women
- Low testosterone and/or estrogen levels in men
- Women who are going through menopause
It is recommended that all women over the age of 65 routinely receiving osteoporosis screenings. If patients are at an increased risk for broken bones caused by osteoporosis, the screenings should start earlier. Although the majority of osteoporosis cases are among women, men are also susceptible but at a much lower rate than women.
